Bio
A diminutive rover who worked his way up from the seconds, Bill Cookson made a brief but sharp cameo during Essendon's famous 1924 premiership campaign. Standing just 168cm, he broke into the senior side late in the season and showed immediate promise by booting three goals in his two appearances, though he could not displace the established stars of the "Mosquito Fleet" for the finals series. While his on-field tenure was short-lived, Cookson became a titan of the club off the field, eventually serving as the Bombers' secretary for a record-breaking 28 years and overseeing the recruitment of icons such as John Coleman. His immense administrative contribution was later recognised with his induction as an inaugural Essendon Hall of Fame Legend and the naming of the W.H. Cookson Stand in his honour.
