Bio
Arriving at East Melbourne as a seasoned recruit from VFA powerhouse Williamstown, Bill Davies established himself as a premier wingman during a competitive era for Essendon. Originally hailing from the country town of Yea, the lightly built speedster relied on agility and clever ball use rather than brute strength to drive the Bombers into attack. He became a fixture in the club's midfield, earning selection for Victoria in 1909 and holding down a wing during Essendon’s 1908 Grand Final loss to Carlton. After four seasons in the VFL, Davies returned to Williamstown in 1910 before embarking on a significant post-playing career in the white coat, eventually officiating over 200 VFL matches as a boundary umpire.
