Bio
Bill Eason was a pioneering figure for the Geelong Football Club, migrating from Liverpool as a child to become the Pivotonians' first VFL player to reach the 200-game milestone. A contemporary of his younger brother and fellow club great Alec Eason, Bill established himself as a premier centreman who could dominate through the middle of the ground. Known for his elite distribution, he was widely considered the finest kick of his era, possessing a lethal boot that allowed him to drift forward and tally an impressive 187 goals—a significant return for a midfielder of the time.
His leadership credentials were just as impressive as his ball use, seeing him captain the side from 1910 to 1913 and serve as captain-coach during the latter part of that tenure. Eason's career was ultimately curtailed by the onset of World War I, which forced Geelong into recess and brought his playing days to a halt after the 1915 season. He remains a towering figure in the club's history, honoured as an official Geelong Legend for setting the standard of excellence in the club's formative VFL years.
