Bio
Recruited from Hamilton, Bill "Mick" Elston was a rover and wingman whose brief VFL career was defined by the onset of the Great War. He broke into the Melbourne lineup late in the 1915 season, making his debut in Round 15 and holding his place long enough to feature in the club's Semi Final loss to Carlton. With Melbourne entering recess for the duration of the conflict, Elston enlisted in the 39th Battalion in 1916 and did not return to the VFL upon his return to Australia. He later found success in the Geelong Association, where he served as captain in 1924.
