Bio
Recruited from South Yarra, Bill Flintoft was the son of a prominent local mayor who established a reputation as the "Beau Brummell" of the VFL. A stylish and dapper operator through the centre and half-forward flank, he played over 40 games for Melbourne before a brief, single-game stint with St Kilda in 1913 brought his playing days to a close. His service to the game continued well beyond his retirement, first interrupting his life to serve as a Lieutenant in the First World War, and later returning to the Melbourne Football Club as a key administrator. Flintoft ultimately ascended to the presidency, guiding the club off the field during their celebrated 1948 premiership campaign.
