Bio
Bill Fraser was a foundational pillar for South Melbourne during the club's transition from the VFA into the newly formed VFL in 1897. Already an experienced campaigner by the time the league began, he served as a reliable follower and ruckman who used his physical maturity to great effect against younger opponents. Fraser's standing within the group saw him appointed captain, notably leading the Bloods into the 1899 Grand Final where they ultimately fell to Fitzroy. He remained a consistent fixture in the senior side throughout the early 1900s, providing stability and leadership until his retirement in 1904, concluding his career as one of the key architects of the club's early VFL identity.
