Bio
Recruited from the country town of Hamilton, Bill Garvie was a diminutive but courageous rover and wingman who joined Richmond in the mid-1930s. Despite possessing noticeable speed and elusive skills, he struggled to command a regular spot in the Tigers' senior lineup, managing just nine appearances across two seasons while dominating at the lower level, evidenced by his victory in the club's 1935 Reserves Best and Fairest count. He later transferred to Carlton, where he was unable to break out of the seconds, and briefly played for Oakleigh in the VFA. A talented dual sportsman who also played district cricket, Garvie's life was tragically cut short during World War II when he died in an accident while serving with the AIF in Queensland.
