Teams

Recruited from the prolific football nursery of Assumption College in Kilmore, Bill Godridge arrived at the Western Oval as a promising prospect for the 1970 season. Standing 180cm, he was a mid-sized utility capable of rotating between the forward flank and the midfield, though he found senior opportunities difficult to seize in a Footscray side anchored by established stars like Gary Dempsey and David Thorpe. Godridge spent three seasons on the Bulldogs' list, often oscillating between the reserves and the seniors, where he struggled to string together consistent appearances. He played his best football in 1972, managing six games, but was ultimately unable to cement a permanent spot in the starting 18. His VFL career concluded after 12 games and five goals, marking him as one of the many talented schoolboy recruits who couldn't quite bridge the gap to regular league football during the tough selection environment of the early 1970s.
