Bio
Recruited from VFA outfit Essendon Town, Bill Griffiths was a fringe player who split his brief VFL career between two clubs in the early 1900s. He broke into the Fitzroy lineup in 1903, managing eight senior appearances and kicking two goals, but was unable to hold his spot for the Maroons' finals campaign. Seeking greater opportunities, Griffiths crossed to South Melbourne the following season, where he added another nine games over two years before drifting out of the league. While his time as a player was short-lived, he remained involved in the sport as a boundary and field umpire, though his life was later tragically cut short in 1928 when he was struck by a ball and killed during a district cricket match.
