Bio
Recruited from Swan Hill in the Mallee region, Bill Harwood was a serviceable wingman and half-forward whose VFL career was significantly disrupted by the Second World War. He established himself at Geelong in the early 1940s before the club was forced into recess due to wartime travel restrictions and player shortages. Consequently, Harwood spent the 1942 season filling in for South Melbourne, where he played 15 games and booted five goals for the "Bloods." He returned to the Pivot in 1946 following the resumption of normal competition, becoming a regular contributor in the Cats' lineup for another three seasons. A handy utility who could drift forward and hit the scoreboard, Harwood played 84 senior games across a disjointed nine-year span before finishing his league career in 1948.
