Bio
Recruited from the Tasmanian mining town of Zeehan, Bill Heatley arrived at Victoria Park in 1908 and quickly found a niche as a versatile utility capable of impacting contests at both ends of the ground. While primarily stationed forward, he could be swung into defence to plug gaps, a flexibility that saw him play 50 games over four seasons. His time at Collingwood was marked by personal misfortune during the club’s 1910 premiership campaign; despite playing 16 matches and holding his spot for the final three rounds of the home-and-away season, he was squeezed out of the side for the finals series and missed the ultimate success. Heatley played just two more games in black and white before crossing to Brighton in the VFA mid-way through 1911.
