Bio
A mature-age recruit who developed his craft in the VFA with Richmond and Preston, Bill Hendrie joined Melbourne midway through the 1910 season and immediately added steel to the side's follower division. Standing out as a strong ruckman who could push forward to hit the scoreboard, he missed just a handful of games between 1911 and 1914, playing a key role in the club's run to the 1914 semi-finals. His career was brought to a premature close by the Great War, with Hendrie hanging up his boots early in the 1915 season to enlist in the 59th Battalion, where service injuries ultimately dashed his hopes of a post-war return.
