Bio
Recruited from the small Otway Ranges town of Forrest, Bill Icke was a sturdy utility whose introduction to league football was shaped by the Second World War. With his local club Geelong in recess during the 1942 and 1943 seasons due to wartime travel restrictions, Icke initially found a home with South Melbourne, managing two senior appearances for the Bloods in 1943. After a two-year absence from the VFL, he finally donned the hoops in 1946 as Geelong returned to full competition. Icke became a regular fixture in the Cats' lineup that season, playing 14 games and kicking his solitary career goal as a reliable contributor during the club's post-war reintegration before finishing his brief but unique tenure at the top level.
