Bio
Recruited from local side Geelong West, Bill James was a tall prospect who earned a brief opportunity with the Cats during the 1957 season. Standing at 187cm, he played three senior games after breaking into the side for a debut against Collingwood at Kardinia Park, but found it difficult to hold his spot in the lineup. Following this short stint at the top level, James returned to his original club the following year and immediately proved his quality, dominating the Ballarat Football League to win the competition's best and fairest award in 1958. While his VFL career was fleeting, his immediate success upon returning to the country leagues highlighted his genuine talent as a local footballer.
