Bio
Recruited from Tooronga, Bill Joiner was a towering figure in an era where standing 200cm made him a genuine giant of the VFL. As a ruckman who utilised his significant height advantage to control aerial contests and stoppages, Joiner arrived at Hawthorn just as the club was ascending toward its first golden era. He played a crucial role in the first half of the historic 1961 season, featuring in the first eight rounds to help establish the team's early momentum, but he ultimately lost his spot in the senior side prior to the finals campaign. Although he missed out on selection for the Grand Final 22, Joiner remains a footnote in the history of the club's maiden premiership squad, eventually departing the league after adding just five more games in 1962.
