Bio
Born in Castlemaine, Bill Laver belonged to a distinguished sporting family; he was the nephew of Australian Test cricketer and team manager Frank Laver. Recruited from North Melbourne in the VFA, he broke into the Carlton side for a single match in 1908 but was unable to retain his spot in a powerful Blues lineup. After a three-year absence from the league, Laver resurfaced at Fitzroy in 1912, where he managed a more sustained run of seven games and booted his only career goal. Unable to establish himself as a permanent fixture at either club, his life was cut tragically short when he passed away in 1922 at the age of 34.
