Arriving at Victoria Park from VFA club Northcote, Bill Nolan was a dependable defender who served Collingwood for five seasons in the immediate post-war era. Standing 183cm, he possessed the height to man key defensive posts but was versatile enough to play across various parts of the backline, notably keeping a clean sheet with zero goals from his 60 senior appearances. He became a regular fixture in the Magpies' defence during the late 1940s, featuring in three finals matches as the club remained a competitive force. After five years at the top level, Nolan departed Collingwood at the end of 1951 to return to Northcote, later extending his football journey as a player for Daylesford and coach of Kyneton in regional Victoria.
