Bio
Hailing from Castlemaine, Bill Pickering (also known as Stan) was a versatile sportsman who captained Wesley College in both football and cricket before refining his craft with Cheltenham. He joined St Kilda during the club's disastrous 1902 campaign, a season notoriously remembered for the Saints failing to register a single premiership point. Pickering managed six senior appearances as a utility in a lineup that was routinely outclassed by the league's powerhouses, kicking his solitary career goal during his brief tenure at the Junction Oval. Despite his background as a highly capable athlete who also played A-grade pennant tennis, his VFL career was confined to that single winless winter, and he eventually relocated to the Gippsland region where he remained until his death.
