Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo League's South Bendigo, Bill Ripper was a country footballer who made a brief but spirited impact in the VFL during the mid-1930s. A half-forward capable of hitting the scoreboard, he initially struggled to break into a strong Richmond lineup, managing just four goalless games in his debut season. A switch to Hawthorn the following year proved fruitful, where he found his feet as a regular avenue to goal, booting 15 majors in just 10 appearances for the Mayblooms. Despite this promising form, Ripper's VFL career ended after that single season at Glenferrie Oval as he returned to the bush to captain-coach Eaglehawk and later Cohuna. He served in the Australian Army during the Second World War, a period that largely defined the interruption of his wider football journey.
