Teams

Recruited from Nhill in the Wimmera region, Bill Roberts was a versatile flanker who featured for Essendon in two separate stints during the early 1930s. Capable of playing on both the half-back and half-forward lines, he broke into the senior side late in the 1931 season but struggled to cement a permanent spot, spending the entire 1932 season out of the team before managing a handful of games in 1933. After his brief VFL career concluded with 12 appearances, Roberts established himself as a star of country football, playing for Warrnambool before winning premierships with both Horsham and Stawell in the Wimmera Football League. He later served in the RAAF during World War II and returned to Horsham as a non-playing coach in 1946.
