Bio
A South Yarra native with a slight frame, Bill Sharp was a journeyman footballer whose career was defined by its fragmentation during the Second World War era. He broke into the St Kilda lineup in 1938, playing the bulk of his senior football in his first two seasons as a nimble small man who could rotate through the flanks. After falling out of favour at the Junction Oval and spending time with Sandringham in the VFA, Sharp was thrown a lifeline by North Melbourne, adding three games to his tally during the list-depleted war years of 1941 and 1942. His momentum was halted entirely by service in the Royal Australian Air Force, but he managed to bookend his career with a return to the Saints in 1945, playing one final match seven years after his debut.
