Bio
Hailing from the family behind the iconic Spurling Formalwear brand, Bill Spurling was a skilled centre half-forward who made his way to the Western Oval from Trentham. A former standout junior with excellent hands, he developed into a reliable key position player for the Bulldogs, peaking during a superb 1931 campaign that saw him boot a career-high 24 goals and represent the Big V. After eight seasons of service in the top flight, Spurling shifted his focus to country football, moving to the Bendigo Football League where he became a genuine star for Kyneton, winning a premiership and the Fred Wood Medal as the league's best and fairest in his debut season before later taking on coaching duties.
