Bio
Recruited from Malvern Amateurs, George Wilmot "Bill" Stamps was a mature-age arrival at the Junction Oval who was given a brief opportunity at the top level during a difficult period for St Kilda. Making his debut at age 25 late in the 1947 season, Stamps was brought into a side destined for the wooden spoon as the club searched for capable senior bodies to stem a run of losses. Standing 178cm, he managed just three senior appearances without troubling the scorers before his VFL career concluded at the end of the year. While his time in the red, white, and black was fleeting, he remains representative of the post-war amateur footballers who stepped up to fill gaps in League ranks during the late 1940s.
