Bio
Recruited from Sale in the Latrobe Valley, Bill Stephenson established himself as a reliable full-forward for St Kilda during a lean era for the club in the late 1950s. He made an immediate impact upon his arrival at the Junction Oval, utilising his strong hands and accuracy to top the club's goalkicking in his debut 1957 season, a feat he repeated in 1958 and 1960. While often starved of opportunity in a struggling lineup, Stephenson proved a consistent avenue to goal and provided a focal point for the Saints' attack across seven seasons. He finished his VFL career in 1963 having played 88 games, departing the club just as the squad that would eventually deliver the 1966 premiership was beginning to assemble.
