Bio
Recruited from Carrum via the Melbourne reserves, Bill Stevens arrived at Fitzroy seeking opportunity after being blocked by the formidable depth of the Demons' golden era. Standing 184cm, he was a tall utility capable of playing key position or flanking roles, but found his path to senior selection blocked by Melbourne's premiership stars. Stevens finally earned his shot at VFL level with the Lions in 1961, breaking into the senior side for two appearances. Despite the move, he was unable to cement a permanent place in the lineup and finished his VFL career without registering a goal, leaving the league after a single season at Brunswick Street.
