Bio
Recruited from Albion United after an earlier stint with Footscray in the VFA, Bill Stranger was a tall, sturdy player who made a unique entrance into the VFL. He earned his debut in the intense environment of the inaugural 1897 finals series, first appearing in a Round Robin clash against Geelong rather than the home-and-away season. Standing 180cm—significant size for the era—Stranger used his frame to hold down key positions and became a regular fixture during the 1898 season, missing only one match. Despite settling into the side and managing two goals in his 17 career appearances, his time at Victoria Park was brief, and he departed the league at the conclusion of his second year.
