Stats
Bio
Hailing from the football strongholds of East Wonthaggi and Assumption College, Bill Sweeney joined Melbourne as a young forward prospect in the mid-1930s. He broke into the senior side late in the 1934 season, managing to hit the scoreboard during his brief stint in the top grade. However, he was unable to command a regular position in the Demons' lineup, adding only a solitary game the following year before departing the VFL scene. Sweeney ultimately finished his short-lived league career with three goals from four appearances, typifying the fringe players fighting for opportunities at the MCG during that era.
