Bio
Recruited from the Preston Boys' Club, Bill Tebble was a sturdy, reliable defender who carved out a regular spot in the Collingwood backline during the early 1950s. The son of former South Melbourne player Patrick Tebble, he used his 182cm frame effectively in both the back pocket and at centre half-back, becoming a defensive staple for the Magpies across four seasons. Tebble’s career is often remembered for its unfortunate timing; after playing 20 games in 1951 and featuring in the finals campaigns of 1951 and 1952, he was a key contributor during the club's 1953 premiership year. Despite playing 16 games that season, he ultimately missed selection for the Grand Final victory over Geelong, denying him a premiership medallion. He left Victoria Park at just 25 years of age to take up a captain-coach role with Mortlake in the Hampden League.
