Teams

Recruited from the Teachers Training College, Bill Walker was a diminutive rover and forward who played a brief role for University during the club's twilight years in the VFL. Born in Castlemaine, the 168cm playmaker broke into the Students' lineup in 1912, managing 10 senior appearances and three goals across two seasons while the amateur side struggled against professional opposition. His football career was effectively ended by the onset of World War I and the subsequent dissolution of the University club; a schoolteacher by trade, he enlisted in 1915 and applied his civilian skills to the war effort, serving as a commissioned officer in the Army Educational Services rather than returning to the VFL with a different team.
