Bio
An experienced campaigner by the time the VFL was formed, Bill Woodhouse was a tall and athletic follower who notably represented two foundation clubs in the league's first two seasons. Originally commencing his football journey with St Kilda in the VFA in 1891, he spent a brief period in Broken Hill before joining Carlton in 1894, eventually earning selection in the Blues' inaugural VFL side in Round 1, 1897. Known for his endurance—he was a dedicated cross-country runner who occasionally missed matches to compete in athletics—Woodhouse played 10 games for Carlton before returning to his original club, St Kilda, for the 1898 season. He added another seven games to his tally with the Saints while balancing his football with his profession as a pharmacist, eventually retiring from the top level at the end of that year.
