Bio
Selected by Geelong with pick 15 in the 2010 National Draft, Billie Smedts arrived at Kardinia Park as a highly-rated utility but found his time in the hoops significantly hampered by injuries. A versatile operator capable of playing as a rebounding defender or a half-forward, his development was stalled by setbacks, including a serious leg break, which prevented him from securing a permanent spot in a strong Cats lineup. Seeking a fresh start, Smedts was traded to Carlton ahead of the 2017 season as part of the deal that sent Zach Tuohy to Geelong. Despite the move, he struggled to command a regular place in the Blues' best 22, spending the majority of his time at Princes Park in the VFL before being delisted at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
