A seasoned campaigner from the VFA, Billy Cole arrived at the Junction Oval in 1935 as a mature-age recruit from Northcote, where he had already notched up over 100 games and featured in the club's dominant premiership era. Standing just 170cm, the diminutive utility primarily operated on a wing or half-forward flank, relying on his agility and goal sense to add polish to a St Kilda side fighting to climb the ladder. He proved to be a handy acquisition for the Saints, becoming a regular fixture in the lineup and notably booting a career-high four goals against Richmond in his final season. Cole finished his VFL tenure in 1937 as a respected contributor who successfully bridged the gap between Association success and League football.
