Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo region, Billy Gambetta was a sharp-shooting forward best known as the older brother of St Kilda champion Cyril Gambetta. He initially made his mark in the VFA playing alongside his brother at Hawthorn, where he established himself as a prolific avenue to goal with 45 majors in just 18 matches. This impressive form earned him a mid-season transfer to South Melbourne in 1922, where he immediately displayed his scoring efficiency by snagging seven goals in four senior appearances. Despite his high strike rate and promising start at the Lake Oval, his VFL career was limited to that single brief cameo, and he eventually returned to the Association to finish his playing days with Yarraville.
