Bio
Taken by the Brisbane Lions with pick eight in the 2011 National Draft, Billy Longer arrived as a highly rated junior ruckman from the Northern Knights but found senior opportunities limited behind Matthew Leuenberger. Seeking greater game time, he requested a trade to St Kilda ahead of the 2014 season, where he eventually established himself as the club's primary ruckman during the 2015 campaign. A traditional tap specialist who thrived in heavy traffic rather than serving as an athletic link player, Longer's physical style often resulted in high hit-out numbers but drew scrutiny for his limited possession output around the ground. His tenure at Moorabbin was frequently interrupted by form slumps and injury setbacks, most notably persistent concussion issues which ultimately forced his premature retirement at the conclusion of the 2019 season.
