Bio
Recruited from Port Melbourne in the VFA, Billy McGregor joined St Kilda during the club's most difficult formative era. A reliable and consistent performer who missed few matches during his two-season tenure, he arrived at the Junction Oval in 1899—a year in which the team failed to win a single game. Despite the on-field struggles, McGregor became a permanent fixture in the side and etched his name into Saints history the following season. In Round 1, 1900, he lined up in the team that defeated Melbourne by a single point, breaking a demoralising 48-game losing streak to record St Kilda’s first-ever VFL victory. He departed the league at the end of that season, remembered as a foundational player who helped the club finally taste success.
