Bio
Arriving at Carlton with a reputation for blistering speed, Billy Robinson was a celebrated professional runner who famously won the prestigious Stawell Gift in 1914. Recruited from VFA side Footscray, the Maldon native defied the convention of traditional speedsters by establishing himself as a key pillar in defence, holding down the difficult centre half-back position. His elite athleticism allowed him to close down forwards effectively, and his impact was instantaneous, playing a crucial role in the Blues' 1915 Premiership triumph over Collingwood in just his first season. Robinson remained a defensive fixture during the disrupted World War I years, featuring in the 1916 Grand Final loss to Fitzroy, before concluding his brief but successful VFL tenure after four seasons.
