Bio
Recruited from VFA club Preston, Billy Walsh was a persistent rover whose VFL career was bookended by a remarkable ten-year hiatus. He initially broke into the Melbourne side late in the 1934 season, capping his brief stint by being named best-on-ground in the club’s Seconds premiership victory. His progress was derailed by a severe leg fracture upon returning to the VFA the following year, forcing him to rebuild his form through the industrial leagues with General Motors-Holden and in the country with Moe. Following service with the RAAF during World War II, Walsh made an unexpected senior cameo for Fitzroy in 1944 at the age of 33, eventually finishing his playing days back where he started at Preston.
