Bio
Recruited from Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley, Bob Abernethy was the older brother of Melbourne stalwart Jim Abernethy. While his younger sibling carved out a decade-long career on the half-back flank, Bob’s stint in the VFL was fleeting, consisting of just two senior appearances during the 1923 season. Stationed in the last line of defence, he briefly had the distinction of playing alongside his brother in the Demons' back six before falling out of the side. A solicitor by profession, Abernethy later enlisted in the Australian Army in 1942, serving as a private during World War II.
