A skilled rover from Western Australia, Bob Annesley's brief VFL career was a product of the wartime player movements during 1945. Having already established himself with Swan Districts in the WAFL, he joined Essendon for a six-game stint while stationed in Victoria, quickly proving his worth as a dangerous small forward who could hit the scoreboard. He booted seven goals during his short tenure at Windy Hill before returning to the West once the war concluded. Annesley resumed his playing days with Swan Districts and eventually became a coaching legend in local Perth football, steering Scarborough to a remarkable six consecutive premierships in the 1960s.
