Bio
Recruited from Noble Park, Bob Bell was a tall ruckman who broke into the South Melbourne senior side as a teenager in the early 1970s. Standing 191cm, he made his VFL debut at just 18 years of age, utilising his height to compete in the air and provide a vertical option at stoppages. Despite his early promise, Bell found it difficult to secure a permanent position at the Lake Oval, managing sporadic appearances across four seasons while battling for consistent selection. He missed the entire 1973 senior season and added just two final games in 1974 before his time at the elite level came to a close at only 21 years of age.
