Stats
Bio
Recruited from the club’s development pathways, Bob Carroll was a serviceable tall utility who found himself starved of senior opportunity during Melbourne’s golden era under Norm Smith. Standing 185cm, he spent several seasons on the fringe of the powerhouse lineup, famously captaining the Demons' reserves and topping their goalkicking in 1964 while the seniors marched to a premiership. Seeking regular football, Carroll departed the MCG the following season in a chaotic year that saw him train with Fitzroy, sign with Hawthorn for a handful of games, and then finally land at the Lions via a mid-season clearance. He played out the remainder of his VFL career at Brunswick Street as a depth player, providing experience to a struggling Fitzroy outfit before finishing his time in the league at the end of 1966.
