Bio
Recruited from Castlemaine in central Victoria, Bob Curtayne arrived at the Junction Oval as a mature-age recruit in the immediate post-WWI era. He established himself as a valuable wingman for St Kilda, debuting at 26 years of age and playing almost every game across his two seasons at the top level. While he rarely hit the scoreboard—managing just one goal in his 23 appearances—he was regarded as a reliable link player in the Saints' midfield during a lean period for the club. Curtayne's VFL career was brief not due to lack of ability, but rather a desire to pursue opportunities in country football; he departed the league after the 1921 season to accept a position as coach of the Minyip Football Club.
