Bio
Recruited from Elmore on the recommendation of 1925 Brownlow Medallist Col Watson, Bob Dawson was a skillful and quick rover who played a brief cameo for St Kilda in 1941. Renowned for his elite fitness and deceptive blind turn, he managed just four senior games before his VFL career was curtailed by World War II, during which he enlisted in the Army and served overseas. Rather than returning to the Junction Oval post-war, Dawson cemented a legacy as a country football giant, winning the Michelsen Medal with Elmore and the Morrison Medal as captain-coach of Tongala. He remained a revered figure in the game long after his playing days, passing away in 2023 at the age of 102 as St Kilda's oldest living player.
