Teams

Recruited from Ivanhoe Grammar with a strong sporting pedigree—his father was a Victorian cricketer and his uncles played for Collingwood—Bob Dummett became a reliable avenue to goal for Richmond during the difficult late 1950s. Although lightly built for a key position player, standing 188cm but weighing just 72kg, he operated effectively as a full-forward or centre half-forward who relied on strong hands and accurate finishing rather than brute strength. After cutting his teeth in the club's back-to-back Reserves premierships, Dummett graduated to become the senior side's focal point, topping the club's goalkicking table in 1956, 1957, and 1959. His ability to hit the scoreboard in a struggling team was highlighted by a bag of eight against Geelong, but his promising career was cut short at just 25 years of age due to a chronic knee injury, leaving him as a highly efficient but luckless figure in Tiger history.
