Stats
Bio
Recruited from local club Glen Iris, Bob Fisher was a defender who broke into the Hawthorn lineup as a teenager in late 1948. Operating primarily on a half-back flank, he played during a distinctively amateur era for the club, often travelling to away games in a furniture van or arriving on his own motorbike. His time at the top level was highlighted by a baptism of fire against Geelong speedster Bobby Davis, a matchup he was cunningly manoeuvred into by veteran teammate Col Austen. After 28 senior games, Fisher’s VFL career ended prematurely when he left Australia to join the British Merchant Navy to further his engineering qualifications, though he eventually returned to Melbourne to play with Camberwell in the VFA.
