Bio
Recruited from Sandringham in the VFA after previously dominating the amateur ranks with Ormond, Bob Flegg arrived at the Junction Oval as a ready-made solution to St Kilda’s full-forward woes. The prolific spearhead made an immediate impact in his debut season, playing every game of 1941 and topping the club’s goalkicking with 47 majors. A reliable kick who seemed destined for a long career as the Saints' focal point, his football journey was tragically cut short by the Second World War. Serving as a pilot in the RAAF, Flegg was killed in action when his plane was shot down over Austria in 1944, leaving him remembered as one of the club's most poignant "what could have been" stories.
