Bio
A Duntroon graduate with a background in rugby, Bob Hay holds a unique place in league history as a player whose entire VFL career consisted of finals matches. Recruited from Melbourne Collegians, the strong-marking forward was elevated to the Richmond senior side for the 1942 finals series after booting eight goals in a solitary reserves appearance. He debuted in a Semi Final victory over Essendon and played his second and final game in the Grand Final loss to the same opponent two weeks later. While he managed a brief stint with West Adelaide in the SANFL in 1945, his football ambitions were ultimately superseded by a distinguished military career, during which he rose to the rank of Major General and commanded Australian forces in Vietnam.
