Stats
Bio
Recruited from Deniliquin in the New South Wales Riverina, Bob Henderson established himself as a reliable fullback for Fitzroy during a decade-long VFL career. Donning the number 23 guernsey, he was the definition of a defensive specialist, playing 137 senior games while registering just a solitary goal. His disciplined approach to the game saw him hold down the key defensive post with consistency, notably featuring in the Lions' finals campaigns under coach Len Smith in 1958 and 1960.
Henderson's service to the club extended well beyond his playing days. After a stint coaching Sunshine in the VFA, he returned to Fitzroy to serve as a committeeman and later as an assistant coach between 1975 and 1977. His on-field contributions were recognised with Life Membership in 1962, and he remained a staunch figure at the club, famously remarking that the Fitzroy jumper meant "everything" to him. He was a member of the club's 1959 Night Premiership side and is remembered as a consummate clubman who gave his all for the Lions.
