Bio
Recruited from Minyip in the Wimmera district, Bob Johnstone was a versatile ruck-rover and forward who spent two seasons at Victoria Park. Standing 183cm, he possessed the size to contest overhead marks while remaining mobile enough to rotate through the midfield or flank. Johnstone broke into the senior side early in the 1962 season, showing immediate promise by impacting the scoreboard regularly during his initial run of games. Despite a respectable return of 11 goals from his 14 appearances, he struggled to cement a permanent place in the Magpies' starting lineup during a competitive era for the club. He departed the VFL scene following the 1963 season, remembered as a capable country recruit who made the most of his brief opportunities at the highest level.
