Bio
Recruited from Edithvale-Aspendale, Bob Kupsch was a defender who found himself on the fringe of a powerful Collingwood side during the mid-1950s. Despite proving his quality by winning the club's reserves Best and Fairest twice (1954 and 1956), he struggled to cement a permanent place in the senior eighteen, famously featuring as a reserve on the bench in the Magpies' consecutive Grand Final losses to Melbourne in 1955 and 1956. Seeking greater opportunity, Kupsch crossed to St Kilda midway through the 1957 season, where he was able to play more regular football before retiring from the VFL at the end of 1958. He later established a legacy in country football, coaching Sandhurst and Tyntynder in the Bendigo and Mallee leagues.
